- Team StarChase wins twice the Porsche Dealers Trophy
- Tanart S. keeps scoring high
- Team C&D Auto’s Yuan Bo bounces back
BANGSAEN, 2nd of July – The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA) held its third round in the streets of Bangsaen this weekend. Team StarChase driver Philip Hamprecht was satisfied to secure his first double podium result of the season as local favorite Tanart Sathienthirakul garnered two fifth-place finishes. For Team C&D Auto’s Yuan Bo it was a weekend of misfortunes.
The “beach battle” started on Friday with two practice sessions and continued on Saturday morning with the exciting qualifying session. Hamprecht went third quickest as Tanart qualified seventh. 2016 Pro-Am Class Champion Yuan Bo posted the ninth-fastest lap time.
Race one took place in the afternoon in the usual hot and humid conditions. In a relatively uneventful race for Team StarChase, Hamprecht started and finished third. This result marked Hamprecht’s first PCCA podium of the season and Team StarChase first win in the new Porsche Dealer Trophy.
Tanart started seventh on the grid and got up to sixth on the first lap, but on cold tires found his grip not all there – therefore losing some vital time and finding himself slip down to eighth. He soon managed to catch up with a few drivers in front of, including the two Porsche Junior China drivers, to finish fifth.
Yuan Bo’s race came to an early end with spin on lap three.
The round six of the PCCA season was the last race of the Bangsaen Grand Prix programme.
Starting from third in the grid, Hamprecht had a solitary and faultless race. The single safety-car deployment didn’t knock him off of his strides and the German racer picked up the points for third, climbing up to sixth in the championships standings. Thanks to this result, Team Starchase repeated the triumph in the Porsche Dealer Trophy, moving up into second in the category’s point’s table.
For Tanart, who started from sixth in the grid, an earlier move saw the young Thai slot into fifth. He then maintained his position up until the chequered flag taking points for fifth. On his PCCA rookie season Tanart is currently fifth in the drivers’ standings.
Team C&D Auto’s Yuan Bo took a careful approach with a solid drive to 10th position.
Team Director, Ingo Matter said, “We’re all very happy indeed with the weekend result. Philip showed in Shanghai and Fuji how quick he is. Finally he was able to translate the speed into podium finishes. Team StarChase’s double win in the Porsche Dealer Cup is also one of the highlights of the weekend as well as the solid performance of Tanart, who is improving all the time. One last word to Yuan Bo, who adapted quite well to this street circuit. After his brush with the wall yesterday, he managed to get his confidence back today what is a good sign for the next race. We’re already looking forward to the next race in Sepang, which is another track where we usually are very competitive.”
Next up for PCCA will be held on 22nd/23rd July at Sepang in Malaysia.
