- Team shapes up for another action-filled weekend
- Three-car team to challenge for top honors
- Weekend ends with another “Invitational Race”
SHANGHAI, 18th of July – The Absolute Racing serviced teams have arrived at the Sepang International Circuit, the venue hosting the Rounds 7 & 8 of the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA).
Just a stone’s throw from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the Sepang International Circuit was the first Formula One track noted designer Herman Tilke built from scratch. The venue is a real challenge for all the teams due to the hot and humid conditions.
Team StarChase’s Philip Hamprecht, who is a rookie in this series, has made extraordinary progress since the start of the year, culminating in two podium finishes in Thailand last month to lie sixth on the leaderboard. While fresh from his first podium finishes in PCCA, the German racer heads to Malaysia knowing he has speed to fight for more.
Tanart Sathienthirakul, whose campaign is now gathering momentum and producing the kind of performances that his pace in pre-season promised, is looking to extend his run of consecutive Top-5 finishes. His circuit knowledge will be a vital element for the Thai rookie over the weekend.
After difficult weekends in Fuji and Bangsaen in terms of points scored Yuan Bo is ready to push the Team C&D Auto entry even further forward. The former Class-B champion knows the circuit well and is hoping to head his key rivals in the showdown in Sepang.
The extended race weekend will also feature the second ‘Invitational Race’ of the season, now between the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and its Australian counterpart.
#15 Absolute Racing – Tanart Sathienthirakul
“Following my solid fifth place at Bangsaen I’m aiming to finish in a higher position this time! I raced in Sepang before but never with a Porsche. I’m really looking forward to Sepang this weekend!”
#88 Team C&D Auto – Yuan Bo
“My performance and luck in Fuji and Thailand were not that great. Hopefully I can do better this weekend. I’ve been to Sepang before so I know the track, and I’m looking forward to the race weekend.”
#99 Team StarChase – Philip Hamprecht
“I am hoping to continue this string form, especially in qualifying. I just need to work a bit more on my consistency in the races. Since the last event was a street circuit it was a bit of a different situation. Now we are back on a big circuit, and I am looking forward on how things are going to lay out.”
