Chinese promising young driver Ye Yifei graduates into F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA with Absolute Racing. The 18 year-old will join the team in the final round of the season in Sepang, on November 24/25, and will contest the Winter Series that takes place between January and February 2019.
Ye Yifei has been identified as one of China’s most exciting young racing talents. He began racing karts there when he was eight and won two national titles. After racing in Japan he came to Europe where he made the move to single-seaters in 2015 to conquer the French F4 Series title in 2016. In 2017, he stepped up to Formula Renault Eurocup where this season he made history by being the first Chinese driver to win a race. He finished the season third in the standings.
Ye Yifei said, “I’m very excited to be joining Absolute Racing for this winter and can’t wait to contest F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA. After fighting against the best drivers in Europe for years I feel really confident for this new challenge. I will take my experience with me to our title chase. The team also has plenty of experience in single seaters that I aim to benefit from.”
Team Director Ingo Matter, added “As a Chinese based team we are very pleased and proud that Ye Yifei and his management have chosen to join us for his first Formula 3 experience. Ye Yifei is an incredibly exciting young driver and has already shown in his short career his talent and speed. We very much look forward to working with him and showing what we can achieve together in F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA.”
The F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA Winter Series will be decided over nine races. The three, triple-header rounds will begin on January 13 at Thailand’s Buriram International Circuit where the championship will make its debut, followed by a further two rounds at a second Asian FIA Grade 1 track, Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, on January 20 and February 24.
