• Singha Plan-B Motorsport emerged victorious in GT Class
  • Thailand pair shows impressive pace
  • #59 Audi R8 LMS will return in Buriram

Kuala Lumpur, May 6th, 2017 – Singha Plan-B Motorsport Audi R8 LMS run by Absolute Racing had an outstanding performance in the opening round of 2017 Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. Bhurit Bhirombhakdi and Kantasak Kusiri won the GT Class in the opening round of the championship and finished second place in the second race.

On Saturday morning the Thai duo impressed everyone in the paddock by qualifying first of the GT Class field for Race One and second for the second round.

Race One saw the #59 Audi R8 LMS taking a brilliant GT Class win and fourth overall. From the start the Thailand entry was able run comfortably at the helm of the field.

A drive-trough penalty, allegedly for crossing the white line in the pitlane, did not stop Bhurit Bhirombhakdi and Kantasak Kusiri of winning the GT Class on their first appearance in the series.

On Sunday’s Race 2, Singha Plan-B Motorsport Audi R8 LMS earned a GT Class second-place finish and fifth position overall, setting the fastest lap time of the GT Class in the 60-minute race.

However the result could have been another victory for Bhurit Bhirombhakdi and Kantasak Kusiri.

A forty seconds stop and go penalty for speeding in the pit lane prevented the Thai from achieving their second GT Class win in their Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup weekend superb debut. The #59 Audi R8 LMS dropped to last, but recovered magnificently to second as the race wore on.

Speaking about Race One win, Kantasak Kusiri said, “I had a good start and in the first corner I tried to save my position and the only thing I need is to be faster in the driver changing. It was great for me!”

Bhurit Bhirombhakdi added, “First of all I would like to thank our sponsor, Singha Plan B Motorsport and Absolute Racing that made us the perfect car. It was very easy to drive and it was a fantastic weekend for me.”

Team Director Fabien Fior said of the team’s performance over the weekend,  “It was our first appearance in the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup and we saw a strong performance from both drivers and the team. We could have left Sepang with two wins but making mistakes is part of learning process. Generally speaking, the team and the drivers did a very good job and we’re very happy how did the weekend unfold.”

Bhurit Bhirombhakdi and Kantasak Kusiri will be back on track for the Blancpain GT Asia Series Rnd 3 & 4 on 20/21 June at Buriram, Thailand.
