Absolute Racing put in a battling performance to place three cars in the top-six of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Round 8 at Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore.
– Team StarChase’s speed goes unrewarded
– Tanart S. and Daniel Lu performed strong
– Bao Jin Long is the new Pro-Am Class leader
The weekend had a promising start with Philip Hamprecht storming to a stunning pole position. The German driver clinched pole after blasting through the streets of Singapore and setting a 2:16.258 lap time on Saturday afternoon. Team-mates Tanart Sathienthirakul, Daniel Lu and Yuan Bo qualified all within top-8.
Sathienthirakul set a superb lap time of 2:17.040 min to sit in fifth on the time sheet. Series debutant Lu stopped the clock eight hundredth of a second behind him in seventh, with Yuan Bo taking the final top eight position with a 2:18.096 min quick lap. Pro-Am title contender Bao Jin Long set a solid qualifying lap to put him on third in the Amateur drivers’ class grid, 12th overall, for the start of race on Sunday, while Li Jiaqi qualified P18 in the class and 28th overall.
The 12-lap race took place under sunny and hot conditions on Sunday. Pole-sitter Hamprecht couldn’t make the most out of the opportunity. Team StarChase driver made a blistering start but struggled with the car and gradually fell back down the field to ultimately see the flag in fifth place.
As we head into the final two events of the season, Hamprecht is now nineteen points behind the championship leader. Team StarChase still leads the Porsche Dealer Trophy with a 20-point advantage.
Tanart Sathienthirakul brought the No. 15 est Cola PTT Porsche 911 GT3 Cup home an impressive fourth, equalizing his best result so far this season. The Thailand ace ended the weekend as the best of the Absolute Racing-run cars and pleased that he had made a significant progress.
Daniel Hibbitt Lu Wenlong took sixth on his debut in the streets of Singapore. Porsche China Junior Team driver endured one of the toughest weekends of his career. He has been given two-place grid penalty for taking chequered flag twice in qualifying but he fought hard back to sixth at the flag.
Bao Jin Long put in a spirited drive to return to Pro-Am class podium with a second place finish. Zheng Tong Auto driver heads home in the lead in the category’s championship standings with a comfortable 15-point lead.
Bob Yuan had an inglorious end of the weekend. In the last lap, Porsche Shanghai Waigaoqiao & Pudong driver came into contact with team-mate Daniel Lu and spun, hitting the wall.
Driving for Absolute Racing for the very first time and debuting at Marina Bay Street Circuit, Li Jiaqi kept himself out of trouble to finish 24th overall and 14th in the Pro-Am Class.
Commenting about the race weekend, Fabien Fior said, “Overall, that’s not entirely the result we were looking for as Team StarChase had a competitive good car in qualifying. We will investigate what did happen to Philip today and we will bounce back stronger in Sepang. In contrast, we are quite pleased with Tanart and Daniel’s performances in the race. It shows that they were able to learn the lessons from the past and turn them into strengths. We’re also extremely happy with Bao Jin Long’s result as he moved to the top of Pro-Am Class standings. There are four more races to the end of the season, and all of them will be important.”
The Absolute Racing serviced teams now have a short two-week break before heading to Sepang International Circuit for the 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia penultimate race weekend of the season on September 29/30.
