- J-Fly and Singha Plan B Audis join the team
- OD Racing want to keep the top form
- Team Milestone target another Pro-Am podium
Shanghai, May 16, 2017 – One month after the sensational season opener at Sepang International Circuit, the Blancpain GT Series Asia heads to Thailand for Round Two, as Absolute Racing-serviced teams will be looking to build on strong results following a promising season start.
Two Audi R8 LMS entered by J-Fly by Absolute Racing and Singha Plan-B Motorsport outfits will join championship leaders OD Racing and Pro-Am class podium finishers Milestone Racing Audi R8s in the Absolute Racing stable this weekend.
OD Racing Team’s Patel and Gilbert wrote a piece of history in Malaysia by becoming Blancpain GT Series Asia’s first-ever race winners, and will be eager to continue that top form at the venue located in Buriram, a city 400km north-east of Thailand’s capital city Bangkok. Thanks to a second place finish in the second race in Sepang, the duo enjoys a healthy 13-point lead in the drivers’ championship standings.
Sun Jingzu and Franky Cheng Congfu will be looking for a good result in the #13 Milestone Racing Audi R8 LMS this weekend. Chinese Gentleman Driver Sun continues to learn and impress aboard his German machine, and Cheng’s pace around the fast and flowing circuit of Sepang was nothing short of impressive. They collected a third and a sixth place in the Pro-Am Class respectively, and it will be interesting to see what they can do this weekend at the 12-turn, 4.554km circuit.
Singha Plan-B Motorsport’s Bhurit Bhirombhakdi and Kantasak Kusiri are all out for a good result in their home event where they will be cheered on by the home crowd, family and friends. The Thailand duo surprised everyone in the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup season opener, bringing home a win and a second place finish in the GT class.
J-Fly and Absolute Racing will join forces once again, extending the Audi R8 LMS Cup partnership to the pinnacle of GT racing in the region. Team owner and well-known Gentleman Driver Jeffrey Lee will share the cockpit of an Audi R8 LMS with Belgian rising star and 2017 Audi R8 LMS Cup championship leader Alessio Picariello in the Pro-Am Class.
Team Director Ingo Matter commented: “We are very pleased to welcome J-Fly and Singha Plan-B Motorsport to our Blancpain GT Series Asia family this weekend. They will certainly have a word to say on the Pro-Am class podium fight. We aim to continue our momentum from the opening race weekend at Sepang. Mitch and Aditya are on top form and Sun and Franky are very motivated to do well. We are looking forward to the race weekend ahead.”
The track action begins at Buriram this Friday with the Free Practice sessions, ahead of the Official Free Practice at 0900hrs local time, and Qualifying at 1150hrs and the race one at 1520hrs on Saturday. The second championship race takes place on Sunday at 1415hrs.
