2016 Teams’ and Drivers’ champions Absolute Racing will field a strong four-car line up for the team’s third assault on the 2017 Formula Master Series (FMS).

Last season saw the team win the championship with Philip Hamprecht, while teammate Zheng Shang Guan took home the “Best Chinese Drivers” title. FMS see’s a whole new challenge for the team this season.

Representing the team will be Arvin Esmaeili, Daniel Lu, James Yu Kuai and Manuel Cabrera. The quartet will make their championship debuts with Absolute Racing this year, but all four have experience of working with the team from winter testing in Zhuhai and Sepang.

Arvin Esmaeili

Singaporean born Esmaeili will step up from karting to his first single seater championship. The Swedish, 19, was a top contender in the Singapore Karting Championship and has performed progressively in testing the Formula Masters Series car with the Absolute team.

Daniel Lu

Lu is earmarked as a Chinese star of the future. The Shanghai based karting graduate Lu, 15, is also no stranger to single seaters, and frequently impressed when out on track. Recently the Chinese driver took part in Formula 4 and Formula Renault series races where he got more track time in order to prepare for the 2017 season.

James Yu Kuai

Yu Kuai, 16, joins Absolute Racing for a second year in the series. 2016 saw the young Chinese’s maiden year of car racing, after moving through the karting ranks, and he showed great pace in the series, finishing fifth in the championship standings. Yu will be hunting for a top finish and hopes his experience of the tracks and series will give him an advantage.

Manuel Cabrera

Joining them will be the experienced Formula PanAm driver Manuel Cabrera, 16. The Mexican arrives in Asia with the experience of the Tatuus chassis thanks to successful outings in the Formula PanAm but the lack of the track knowledge at most events will make him work twice.
The 2017 season will hold a total of five events and gets underway on April 8/9 at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. The final round will be held in September at the Shanghai International Circuit.

Ingo Mater, Absolute Racing Team Director: “I’m pleased to welcome the drivers on board for the 2017 season. The FMS focuses on the young talent, and within the team we have four of the most talented young drivers in the field. We have been working closely with the drivers over the winter period and we are very positive for the season ahead. We can’t wait to get to Sepang and get the season underway.”

Fabien Fior, Absolute Racing Team Director: “We are absolutely delighted with our signings for the upcoming season. Esmaeili has always been a young driver to watch since karting and he is a great addition to our team. James improved a lot during the off-season and he is now ready to fight for the top. Daniel is a quick learner and we’re expecting him to raise a few eyebrows, from what we have seen so far. Manuel has been working hard to learn all the tracks and we’re looking forward to helping him reach his potential in the coming months.”
