On an overcast weekend at the Shanghai Formula 1 circuit, Alexandre Imperatori piloted the #99 car to a 7.7 second win over a packed field of GT3 Porsche cup cars. After qualifying on pole position with a 0.368 second lead over second grid position Team Eagle car piloted by Martin Ragginger, Rodolfo Avila in the #20 car took third place. The field of 28 cars were lined up in support of the third race of the Formula 1 season for 2012. Incidents between Avila and Marcel Tjia in the #18 car led to a stewards investigation but did nothing to mar the excitement of the opening race of the season.
Leaving the start line in front of the packed Shanghai stadium at 3:30pm on Saturday, Alexandre maintained a strong lead throughout the 12 lap race. Posting a fastest lap time of 2:09.698, Alex was able to stave off the attack from Martin Ragginger, who fought hard for second step on the podium 7.754 seconds behind Alex.
Finishing out the podium line up was Allan Simonsen in the #3 car who made up two places from his fifth grid starting position. Ho Pin Tung in his first ever PCCA race finished 8th and will be looking for an improved position in tomorrow’s event.
The second race in the two race weekend starts tomorrow in advance of the F1 race. Check out the standings for PCCA by clicking here
