SHANGHAI, 2nd of October – Absolute Racing run Team StarChase driver Philip Hamprecht narrowly missed out on a podium finish in Round 11 of the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia at the Sepang International Circuit. The 20 year-old German wasn’t able to convert his pole position into a win, but was able to claim an important fourth-place finish.

With weather conditions playing a significant part over the weekend, a dry Qualifying on Saturday saw Hamprech record the fastest time, repeating the feat of Fuji’s weekend.

Thai driver Tanart Sathienthirakul in the #15 sister Absolute Racing machine set a respectable seventh fastest time on the clock, with Yuan Bo, who had his best lap time disallowed for failing to respect the track limits, settling amongst the mid-field in P11 out of the 24-car field.

The rain returned to Sepang Circuit on Sunday, putting an end to Hamprecht’s dominance. With everyone with wet tires equipped, the race began in full after three laps behind the safety-car. Hamprecht struggled with grip and dropped back down the field to end the race in fourth.

Tanart had uneventful race to finish where he started; finishing seventh place, comfortably ahead of the cars behind but unable to match those ahead.

Following a non-scoring weekend in the first visit to Malaysia this year, Yuan Bo kept his head throughout the 30-minute battle to cross the finish line in P10.

Hamprecht is now fifth in the 2017 Drivers’ Championship, with Tanart in seventh and Yuan Bo in ninth out of 31 entries.

Team StarChase and Team C&D Auto kept their second and third positions respectively in the Porsche Dealer Trophy.

Fabien Fior, Team Director said “Philip drove a very strong on qualifying but the rain on Sunday really hurt our pace. It was a lost opportunity but overall a reasonable weekend for the team as Tanart and Yuan Bo also scored valuable championship points. Now, with Sepang already behind us, we focus on the next race in Shanghai.”

The teams will head to Shanghai International Circuit for the closing rounds of the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia on November 4/5 as part of FIA World Endurance Championship weekend.
